THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Some dramatic scenes were witnessed in the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) after Dr V Meenakshi refused to hand over charge to Dr K J Reena, who arrived to resume her duties as director following a stay order issued by the Kerala Administrative Tribunal. Dr Meenakshi informed that she will vacate the chair only if the government orders it. The two were found sitting face to face with the claim of the chair. The police reached the spot following the dispute.
The government is trying to appeal in the high court against the action of the Administrative Tribunal, which stayed the order transferring Dr Reena from the director’s post. Since there is a dispute over power, the government's move is to seek a stay order by appealing to a single bench. That is why Dr Meenakshi is trying to continue in the director's chair. Dr Meenakshi's stand is that in the event of a stay order by the Administrative Tribunal, it is the government that should issue a replacement order.
Action was taken against Dr Reena accusing her of working against the system. The government order was stayed following a complaint filed by Dr Reena in the Administrative Tribunal alleging denial of justice.
