KOCHI: More than ten lakh people at various centres across the world will recite 'Daivadasakam', the universal prayer song of brotherhood composed by Sree Narayana Guru, today at 7.15 pm Indian Standard Time. Though the hymn, a message of equality and universal humanism originally written in Malayalam, has been translated into more than 100 languages, this is the first time so many people will sing it together in several languages at the same time. Apart from 18 states in India, the prayer will be recited in around 50 countries. It will be sung in languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, English and German.
Sree Narayana Guru wrote Daivadasakam in 1914 as a simple daily prayer for the students of the Sanskrit School at Advaita Ashram in Aluva. The event is being organised mainly by the Sree Narayana Forum for Universal Brotherhood, based in Germany. The forum is chaired by Dr Varun Radhakrishnan, a non-resident Malayali from Kollam. The programme will be streamed live at https://globaldaivadasakam.online.
