'Stabbed in the back'; Former MLA PV Anvar lashes out at Congress

KOZHIKODE: PV Anvar strongly criticised the Congress party for his defeat from the Beypore constituency in the assembly elections. Anvar shared the speech given by Kozhikode DCC President K Praveen Kumar MLA about the defeat in Beypore.

PV ANVAR:

Those who were duty-bound to support me stabbed me in the back. It happened while the commoners and comrades of Beypore voted for me en masse. Everyone might be seeing the news against the current opposition leader and his family. One among them contested against me in Beypore.

It was my one-man fight against Pinarayi and family rule that enabled the UDF to climb to the height of 102 seats. Among those 102 winners, there are people I respect and revere. With all respect to them, I can say that many others who won’t even stand a chance of winning a panchayat election ended up becoming MLAs. It happened because Anvar put up a solo fight to expose the Pinarayi government, risking my health, life and wealth, sacrificing my positions and without making any 'adjustments' for the 'political future'.

Days before the election, the current chief minister, who arrived in the constituency for an event, promised a gift to Beypore if Anvar ends up as the winner. I don’t know whether he was referring to a ministerial spot. But I don’t know whether this speech gave sleepless nights to many who colluded to defeat me.

But my gratitude and indebtedness to the ordinary workers who worked with me day and night, their families, the democratic believers in Kerala, and the people, young and old, including my comrades who fought against Pinarayi's ideology, will always be firmly in my mind.
