THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A gas leak was reported after an underground gas pipeline was damaged during road construction work at Kumarapuram Poonthi Road in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
As a precaution, people in the area were evacuated. Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and worked to contain the leak.
According to preliminary information, an earthmover accidentally struck the underground gas pipeline while excavation work was underway. Officials then shut the valves supplying gas to the affected section and began repair work.
The leak has since been brought under control, officials said. Gas supply through the affected pipeline has been temporarily suspended as a precaution while repair work continues. Authorities said the situation is under control and there is no immediate danger.
