Kavya and Keerthana arrested in MDMA case (screengrab)

KOZHIKODE: Police will further question the teachers accused in the MDMA case in Vadakara. Kavya, a native of Koorachundu, and Keerthana, a native of Maruthomkara, will be grilled in the process. The aim is to find those who sent money to their accounts. The police also suspect that the duo has links with big names in the drug industry.

Kavya of ‘Kapumuku house’ in Cherukad, Koorachundu, was arrested yesterday. It is reported that teacher Keerthana, who was earlier arrested in a drug case, gave a tip-off about Kavya to the police. The duo, teachers at Perambra BRC, were arrested in a span of two weeks. Keerthana was dismissed from service immediately after her arrest. Sources say that they will request the Education Department to dismiss Kavya too based on the police report.

The police found money transactions into their accounts in instalments. The customers used to send money by scanning a QR code. The duo would also send the location where the drugs would be delivered. The transactions in the drug business were done stealthily and with great planning.

The police suspect that many youths and students in the Vadakara, Kuttyadi and Nadapuram areas are their clients. The investigation has not yet found the person who supplied drugs to the teachers. The police believe that these matters will become clear after questioning both of them in detail. Keerthana was known as ‘Lady Don’ among drug gangs.
