Film director and BJP leader Major Ravi opined on why Mohanlal's daughter and actress Vismaya came out in support of the student protests taking place in Delhi against the NEET exam irregularities. Major Ravi said that Vismaya might have been moved by visuals of students getting beaten up, but he denied the actress having any political knowledge on the subject.
“Some people reached me to comment on Vismaya’s response on the issue. I have known Maya since the time she was born. She is a tender soul who would cry seeing a stray dog scurrying for food on the street. She is a very kind person and loves animals. The same Maya might have felt sad seeing visuals of students getting beaten up during the protest in Delhi. That might have led to her Instagram post. Apart from that, I don’t think she is aware of the politics involved in the issue.
However, some other opportunists have taken up the issue, portraying Maya as a supporter of the Cockroach Janata Party. She does not know about the funding involved nor the NEET issue. If explained, she will understand the matter. Her statements do not need to be portrayed differently, as she is not part of any new movement," said Major Ravi.
"Do you think democracy is when the government treats its own citizens like this?" Vismaya wrote on her Instagram story. After Vismaya's story went viral, many people who support the student protest came forward to praise her. However, a section of social media criticised Mohanlal and his daughter in harsh language.
