PALAKKAD: The daughters of Sudhakaran, who was murdered in the Nenmara double murder case, have sought death penalty for Chenthamara, whom the court found guilty in the case. Speaking to the media after the verdict, Sudhakaran’s daughters, Akhila and Athulya, said the accused should get the maximum punishment. He was heard saying in the courtroom to hang him to death. We got scared after hearing his challenge, they said.
The Palakkad Additional Sessions Court found Chenthamara guilty under Sections 103, 103(I), and 126(II) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused appeared calm in court and showed no signs of remorse. He told the court that he has nothing to say and asked to hang him to death.
Chenthamara’s challenge in court was seen as a threat even to the judiciary. ‘I am not Gandhi to show the other cheek if someone slaps me. If necessary, I will kill others too. Hang me, he said in the court. He also told the judge, write whatever you can. One day you too will face my situation, and then you will understand.
Chenthamara is the sole accused in the murder of Sudhakaran and his mother Lakshmi of Pothundi. The prosecution is also hopeful that the court will award him death penalty.
