GLASGOW: Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu has won India's first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. The Manipur weightlifter clinched the women's 48kg title on Sunday, becoming the first Indian to win three consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medals in the event. Chanu, who had earlier won gold at the 2018 Gold Coast and 2022 Birmingham Games, continued her dominance with another title in Glasgow.

Chanu secured the gold with a 105kg lift in the clean and jerk. She also set a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch with a lift of 85kg. After failing in her opening attempt, she successfully lifted the weight in her second attempt before improving the Games record with an 85kg lift. She then capped off her campaign with a 105kg clean and jerk to complete a historic third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold.
