‘He is not insane, murder was committed because he didn't get MDMA,’ reveals  family

KOZHIKODE: The family of the youth murdered in Kozhikode's Palayam stepped forward with more revelations. The dead is 38-year-old-old Biju of Puthiya Kovilakam Parambu Nagar at Palayam in Kozhikode. The police had arrested Biju’s relative Deepak in the case the other day. While talking to the media, the victim’s sister Bindu said the accused is not insane and that he committed the crime as he didn’t get MDMA.

'Don't portray him as mentally ill. He killed my brother because he did not get MDMA. A mentally ill person wouldn't think of hiding my brother's phone under the bed or burning the clothes he wore during the crime. He's acting, and both the police and others are dismissing as a disease. If he's questioned properly, more behind him will be exposed. He had plans to kill others too. He came knowing no one was at home,’ she said. Biju suffered 45 stab injuries including 18 on the front and back of his neck.

Biju, a bachelor, lived alone in a single-room house at Kovilakam Parambu. His mother, Baby, lived in a nearby house but did not hear any sound of the attack. She found the house locked from outside when she came to wake him up to milk the cow. She found Biju lying in a pool of blood when she opened the door. She then alerted the neighbours and the police.

The police are yet to trace the murder weapon, though officials believe a small weapon was used in an unusual manner. City Police Commissioner A P Shoukathali said the nature of the crime played a crucial role in identifying the suspect.

Investigators said Deepak came in his father’s scooter from his home in Kuttiyilthazham Mankavu. After the murder, he took Biju's mobile phone and his scooter’s key. Police later recovered the phone from under a pillow of his house. Although the SIM card had been removed, reinserting it helped investigators trace the device, leading to a breakthrough in the case.
