Kerala engineering rank list to be released today; delayed CBSE marks spark legal fears

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The rank list for the state engineering and pharmacy entrance examinations will be officially released by Minister Roji M John in Kochi today at 1 PM. The publication, initially scheduled for June 22, was postponed following delays in the declaration of CBSE revaluation results.

With the revaluation scores of nearly 13 percent of CBSE applicants still pending, authorities have decided to proceed by factoring in the candidates' original marks for the final ranking. This move has drawn apprehension from parents, who warn that treating older marks as final could invite legal challenges and potentially jeopardise the entire admission schedule.

Defending the decision, the Entrance Commissionerate stated that CBSE candidates were given three separate windows to upload their revised marks, and any further extension would collapse the allotment pipeline. According to the timeline mandated by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), engineering classes must commence by July 30, and all admissions must be wrapped up by August 14. This leaves authorities with the task of completing three successive rounds of allotments within a single month, alongside finalising spot admissions by August 10.

The Entrance Commissioner had previously approached the AICTE seeking an extension for the allotment schedule, though the council turned down the request. The CBSE has also maintained silence on when the remaining revaluation results will be declared. Faced with rigid institutional deadlines, the Commissionerate clarified that releasing the rank list immediately remains the only viable option to protect the interests of the majority of applicants and prevent a total standstill in the state's professional admissions.
