Political campaign for K N Balagopal; Detailed probe against police officials

KOLLAM: A detailed investigation has been launched into a complaint alleging that four officers of the Kollam Rural Police engaged in political campaigning for LDF candidate K N Balagopal from Kottarakkara in the assembly elections. Kollam Rural SP Shaji Sugunan informed that a preliminary investigation has been initiated against the officers who are office bearers of Left organizations and a DySP has been entrusted to conduct a detailed investigation. He said that strict action will be taken against the officers if they are found guilty.

The investigation is against the police association office bearers Najim, Sujith, Chintu and Shivesh. A video of police officers talking about the achievements of the Left government was used for Balagopal's election campaign. However, the association office bearers responded that this video was prepared in connection with the district conference of the police association and parts of it were used by some online media for election campaign without their permission.
