THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former MLA Shobhana George has denied allegations of undergoing unauthorised beauty treatments during her tenure as chairperson of Oushadhi. She said she had not committed any irregularities at the organisation and challenged those making the allegations to produce evidence. Shobhana George was responding to allegations raised by MLA V.P. Sajeendran in the Kerala Assembly.

The former MLA also shared a troll video on social media mocking the allegations. Shobhana George said she would file a complaint with the Speaker against Sajeendran for making the remarks in the Assembly.

Shobhana George's response

“I did not undergo any treatment at Oushadhi in 2022, either for beauty enhancement or for health purposes. When I was unwell, I received treatment at the allopathic hospital there. I did not undergo any beauty treatment.

“Would a responsible MLA make such an allegation? Saying in the Assembly that I boiled and ate 300 chicken eggs, put kilograms of hibiscus buds in my ears and applied lemon juice as a medicinal compress is tantamount to insulting me as a woman.

“I served as an MLA for 15 years. Why would anyone say such things about me? I do not know what beauty could be achieved by combining eggs, hibiscus flowers and lemon juice. Is there even such a combination? If there were, I would have applied them long ago to become beautiful.

“I wonder how an MLA can have the audacity to say such things even in this day and age. Using a platform like the Legislative Assembly for this was highly inappropriate. The incident requires an investigation.”

What V.P. Sajeendran said in the Assembly

Sajeendran raised the issue in the Assembly the other day, referring sarcastically to the alleged beauty treatments undertaken by George while she was chairperson of Oushadhi.

“I saw a news report claiming that a former Oushadhi chairperson had discovered that beauty could be enhanced by boiling and eating 300 chicken eggs, placing three kilograms of hibiscus buds in the ears and applying lemon juice as a medicinal compress instead of gooseberry. Has this discovery received any patent? Has Oushadhi officially recognised the treatment? If it has not, will the expenses incurred by the former Oushadhi chairperson for the treatment be recovered?” he asked.

Health Minister K. Muraleedharan also responded to the questions in the Assembly.
