THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: G Sudhakaran MLA stepped forward sharply criticizing the home department. He said there is no point in a minister looking fair and handsome if the department itself is not performing well. Sudhakaran described Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala as a very good person and a great man, but added that the department under his charge was performing badly.
The home department has always been a problematic department. The cops should be controlled. It is not enough to find out about their misconduct only after something goes wrong. His response was amid mounting criticism of the police in the Cheranalloor vehicle accident case.
The police officers were citizens in uniform and the police force should be developed with this in mind. The state should have at least one lakh cops with women making up the largest share of the force.
