MUMBAI: Indian cricketer Sanju Samson said he never tried to emulate others or be part of a tough competition. Sanju clarified that he has pursued his career by believing in his own way and values. The Malayali star revealed this on Jiostar’s show 'Believe'.

Sanju played a crucial role in leading India to victory in the Twenty20 World Cup. However, the player was unable to find good form during the tours of Ireland and England. Despite being part of the team, Sanju was left out of the final eleven in many matches. Sanju clarified that he never wanted to be part of the 'rat race' and that he wanted to move forward by believing in his own abilities rather than trying to emulate others.

Sanju admitted facing disappointment many times for not getting opportunities in the Indian team, but he has not changed his approach. None of the omissions affected his confidence. Sanju said that he focused on performing well whenever he got the opportunity. He clarified that there is no need to follow the path of others to achieve heights and everyone has their own time.

"By the grace of God, I have achieved a lot. I am 31 now. I have a few more years left. So, I have decided to play as I like. After the 2024 World Cup, I did not even expect to play in the 2026 World Cup. At one point, I was not even in the 14- or 15-member squad. So how can I plan for 2028 now? If the team needs me and I play well, things will go in the right direction," Sanju said.
