'Inspections to intensify in KSRTC; will bring changes to help private bus operators'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister CP John responded to reports of private bus staff assaulting Priyadarshini bus employees. The minister termed the recurring incidents unacceptable. The minister warned of strict legal action if such incidents continue. The minister also assured intensified inspections on buses to see whether conductors are embezzling money by issuing zero tickets to men.

"The issues surrounding private buses will be solved. The report of the Padmakumar Committee to study the problems of private buses will be received soon. Suggestions are expected from the committee to resolve the matter in a way to not cause problems for KSRTC and the private bus sector. The government is spending money to run the Priyadarshini bus service. It is hoped that the congestion on the Priyadarshini bus to tourist areas including Gavi will gradually return to normal," CP John clarified.

Meanwhile, in the wake of irregularities found in ticket distribution in Priyadarshini buses, KSRTC has tightened inspection. It has been decided to depute the maximum number of ticket inspectors in ordinary buses. Shortage of inspectors is a concern. There are 311 inspectors against the required 789 inspectors. They are also assigned the responsibility of station masters in a few locations.
