Narrow escape: Man bends down to pick up 'belt', only to find a giant King Cobra 

KOTTAYAM: A man narrowly escaped after mistaking a giant king cobra lying on the floor of the dining hall for a black belt. The incident happened at the house of Babu in Pongathanam, Angelvalley, Erumeli, Kottayam.

When Babu approached the object to pick it up, the coiled king cobra hissed and raised its body. The family members panicked and rushed out after spotting the snake inside the house. They immediately informed the forest officials. The incident happened Monday morning.

Snake catchers from the Mundakayam Forest Office arrived at the spot. However, after spotting the king cobra, they informed the Rapid Response (RR) Team at Vandampathal.

When the RR Team arrived, the snake was still coiled in the same spot. As the team began efforts to capture it, the cobra slithered into a nearby toilet before moving into a bedroom. It was eventually captured from under a table.

The house is located close to a forest, and officials suspect that the snake may have entered through the front door, which had been left open that morning.
The forest officials later released the king cobra deep inside the forest.
