VANCOUVER: The main talking point after Canada’s 6-0 win over Qatar was Qatar’s aggressive style of play. Canada, one of the co-hosts, recorded a historic victory in the match.

Two Qatar players received red cards during the game. Canada midfielder Ismaël Koné suffered a serious injury after a tackle. His leg was broken after being hit by a Qatar player. Koné was taken to the hospital on a stretcher and later underwent surgery. He will miss the rest of the World Cup. Qatar player Assim Madibo, who made the challenge on Koné, was shown a red card. This was Canada’s first-ever win in World Cup history.

Jonathan David scores hat-trick
Canada forward Jonathan David scored a hat-trick against Qatar. He scored in the 29th minute and also found the net in stoppage time of both halves. The 26-year-old became the first player after Lionel Messi to score a hat-trick in this World Cup.

Mexico reach knockout stage
Hosts Mexico became the first team to qualify for the knockout stage of the World Cup. Mexico defeated South Korea 1-0 to reach the second round of the 32-team tournament. It was Mexico’s second win in the competition. They had earlier beaten South Africa 2-0 in their opening match. Luis Romo scored the only goal of the match to give Mexico another victory.
