KAMBALA: A man accused of killing and eating 38 people in Uganda has been arrested. He has been identified as Mujurizi Moses. Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced the arrest in a post on X. He described Moses as one of the country's worst serial killers and cannibals and said the suspect would face a public trial.
He expressed satisfaction over the arrest, describing Mujuruzi Moses as one of the most brutal serial killers and cannibals in Uganda’s history. The military chief said Moses had allegedly killed 30 people and eaten their bodies between 2010 and 2015 across the districts of Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo.
He added that Moses would face a public trial and be sentenced to death. He barged into homes and attacks victims with machetes. Reports also say that he lured people into traps by pretending to be romantically interested in them.
Moses had reportedly been arrested by police several times in the past but he manages to escape from their hands. Evidence linked to the murders was allegedly recovered from the place where he was staying. Police are re-examining missing-person and murder cases in the area to determine whether Moses was involved. Investigators also acknowledged that proving the allegations against him in court would be a challenge.
